Things to do in Brisbane

Things to do in Brisbane:

Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
Visitors from overseas will just love the abundant and easily seen Australian wildlife at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Hold a koala, feed a kangaroo, hear a talk about our reptiles – it all makes for a great day out. There’s no need to leave the city to experience our amazing animals.

South Bank
Where did people gather in Brisbane before South Bank was created? It’s hard to imagine the city without this destination. Every visitor to Brisbane will enjoy South Bank’s sandy beach, the open grassy picnic spots, the shops and dozens of eating places. There’s the cinemas, regular free live entertainment and many festivals and fireworks throughout the year.

Moreton Bay
Moreton Bay is huge! Take a trip to Stradbroke Island (affectionately known as ‘Straddie’ to locals). On Moreton Island you can feed wild dolphins at Tagalooma Wild Dolphin Resort. If you don’t have much time, sit beside the bay when you visit the bayside areas of Sandgate, Wynnum or Cleveland.

Story Bridge
Named after John Douglas Story, Brisbane’s Story Bridge links the inner city suburbs of Fortitude Valley and Kangaroo Point. Have a picnic or BBQ under the bridge at Captain Burke Park or eat out at the historic Story Bridge Hotel. For the more adventurous take a climb over the bridge itself with Story Bridge Adventure Climb.

A Trip On The River
Even locals love to get out on the Brisbane River and it’s so easy and cheap to do with a journey on the CityCat. Take a cruise up and down the river, stopping where ever you like along the way – South Bank, University of Queensland, New Farm... The CityCats glide over the water and you’ll see million dollar houses. Travel under the Story Bridge and get a whole new perspective.

Shopping in Brisbane

Queen Street Mall – Located in the heart of the city, the Queen Street Mall and it’s nearby surrounds is Queensland’s premier shopping destination. With more than 26 million visitors a year the open-plan, half a kilometre long Mall is home to the state’s largest collection of flagship stores, unique boutiques and international fashion houses.

Valley Shopping – The valley is Brisbane’s most influential leader in suppling one-of-a-kind products, housing quality fashion, home wares and an extensive selection of adventure and outdoor stores. Fresh fashion outlets dominate Ann and Brunswick Streets, providing current local fashions and edgy urban styles.

South Bank – Brisbane’s cultural hub, boasts markets, cafes, eateries and designer boutiques right next door to cultural centres such as the Queensland Art Gallery, the Queensland Museum and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. Nearby Little Stanley Street and Grey Street add a cosmopolitan and urban atmosphere to the green spaces of South Bank.

Chinatown – Chinatown’s traditional Chinese supermarkets are truly Pan-Asian; they also stock Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Korean and Japanese products. Chinatown Mall’s weekend markets and their myriad of curiosities are well worth a browse. Traditional oriental garments and napery can be found at the Silk Peacock, Yellow Gold Centre sells traditional Asian jewellery, and Chinatown Duty Free, on Wickham Street, caters for international visitors.

Suburban Shopping Centres - Pockets of shopping paradise are dotted all over Brisbane, (connected by public transport, of course). There are small village-like shopping strips including Wilston, Milton & Paddington as well as large, air-conditioned malls.
